International 5.5m

The Ohlson Brothers started their International success with a new design to participate in the 1952 Olympics in Helsinki.

Before this event the International 6 m boats had been declassified as an Olympic class in favour of a new design with a somewhat modified formula compared to the M class rule.

This new design was called HOJWA, an acronym for the names of the members of the consortium that came together for the building and sailing of her. The Bronze Medal was the reward for the skill of her designers and sailors at the Games. This  success brought in the appreciation of a long list of sailors world-wide who ordered their boats from the Ohlson Brothers and sailed them to medal ranks at each Olympics between 1952 and 1968, so as long as the 5.5 m boats were recognised as an Olympic Class in sailing. Needless to say many of their boats won championships at National, European and World level, often Ohlson designed boats had a big share in the race fleets of the contests.
